http://www.dars.state.tx.us/dhhs/beiupdate3-3-06.shtml Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services presents Trilingual Interpreter Training This training, May 31-June 5, 2009, will focus on intensive sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign trilingual interpreting and will provide an environment in which participants can stretch their interpreting horizons and explore new approaches in this specialty area. A highly qualified staff will conduct the training and will include expert trainers in Spanish interpreting and trilingual interpreting. Trilingual instructors include Gina Gonzalez and Carmen Garcia. Spanish to English instructors include Adriana Guevara and Jorge Dieppa. Having current Texas BEI, RID/NIC, or NAD certification is recommended. BEI and RID CEUs will be offered. All participants will be screened for knowledge of Spanish and those without interpreter certification will be screened for interpreting skills. DHHS staff will contact potential participants as soon as registration is received to schedule screening. Call Yolanda Chavira at 512-407-3250 if you have questions. This training is limited to 40 participants and pre-registration is required. Potential participants should arrive at the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf (SWCID), 3200 Avenue C, Big Spring, Texas on Sunday, May 31, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. after which dinner will be served. Introductions and an orientation session will follow. The training sessions will be held June 1-5 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily. Big Spring can be reached via the Midland-Odessa Airport. Airport-to-campus transportation is available for a reasonable fee. The cost for the training is $250, this includes room and meals provided by SWCID. Only individuals who can participate for the entire week will be considered for this intensive training. Participants are expected to be on time for all sessions and commit to giving 100% of their time and energy to this activity. If a participant misses any of the sessions, this will result in forfeiture of CEUs and certificate of completion for the course.
